Letter from Simon Guy Parks to Dr. W.E. Simonds

Title

Letter from Simon Guy Parks to Dr. W.E. Simonds

Description

Simon Guy Parks expresses his regrets at not being able to attend commencement (as it turns out he could have done so) and writes that going to Camp Jackson in South Carolina was "a great disappointment to me for I had hoped to be sent 'over seas' at once." Parks also expresses concern about passing his challenging course at the training school, writing, "Please do not let it be known that I am in a Training camp for I do not want it known, generally, until I have completed the course. Too much chance for failure," and also notes, "Knox is with me all of the time. The lessons that I learned at Knox are always of great help to me." Parks tells Dr. Simonds that he is often reminded of a lesson he learned at Knox: "It is up to every man, and woman, but more especially every man to put in every minute of the time that he is at college to the best possible use. There is a crying need for the college man in the army."
