Excerpt from a letter by Simon Guy Parks to Dr. W.E. Simonds

Description

Lieutenant Simon Guy Parks - a senior at Knox in 1818 - writes to Dr. Simonds to ask "Has the faculty decided definitely concerning the credits of the men leaving school for the army? Also, will I receive a diploma?" He additionally comments, that the training camp he attended was initially "not very well prepared for us," but soon enough proved a welcoming place: "Our mess is fine, we have good bunks, good care, and best of all, we are treated like gentlemen."
